Adopt-a-Highway Program

This year (2008) our club decided to do something to help out the environment. Reb and Bud looked into the adopt-a-highway program and thought it’d be a great idea, the members agreed. We applied for and got the stretch of highway from East ¼ line towards Port Dover. We thought this was appropriate, for obvious reasons.

Members of our club did the first clean up on July 9th, 2008.

Below is an excerpt from the Port Dover Maple Leaf:

The heat and humidity last Wednesday did not stop a dedicated group of volunteers from cleaning up their stretch of adopted highway.

The Black Hawks Motorcycle Club, who are celebrating their 70th anniversary, recently adopted a 2 km stretch of #6 Highway from the East 1/4 Line toward Port Dover. The 2 year mandate will see the Black Hawks clean the stretch from fence line to road three times a year. The Ministry of Transportation will post an Adopt a Highway sign in recognition of the club. After an energy-building breakfast at DeKoning's, the club members spent nearly 3 hours collecting garbage. The club would like to thank U.S. Steel for donating safety vests and the PD13 committee for extra pylons. Thanks also goes out to passing motorists who showed their support with honks and thumbs up. Among other volunteer work the Black Hawks recently helped raise over $10,000 for Hamilton Community Living.
